About Dune Glide

Dune Glide is a JoyArc original one-button endless runner. A ball rolls down procedurally generated desert dunes at dusk: hold the single control to accelerate, release at a crest to launch into the air, and hold again while airborne to dive.

What makes it more than a straight line is the landing read. The game compares the angle of your velocity against the angle of the ground where you touch down. Land within roughly 17 degrees of the slope and it is a Perfect, which extends your combo. Within about 35 degrees is a Good. A committed dive onto the wrong angle is a Harsh landing and ends the run immediately.

Dives are the risk. Holding in the air ramps your descent from a shallow 17 degrees toward a steep 49 degrees over about 0.4 seconds, so you are aiming a continuously adjustable angle rather than a fixed drop. A Perfect landed while diving scores 1.7x more than a gliding Perfect. If you only ever glide, you will survive a long time and score very little, because gliding also bleeds speed.

Terrain difficulty scales with distance: the speed ceiling rises, the dunes get steeper and more varied, and gaps in the ground start appearing for you to clear. Some steep uphill sections carry an updraft that throws you higher than normal, which is more air and a much harder landing to read.

Coins scattered along the route and in the air unlock two extra orb skins. Best score, coin total, unlocked skins and the mute setting save in the current browser's local storage. There is no account, no cloud save and no in-game purchase, and an unfinished run does not survive a reload.

Key Features & Highlights

One input, three actions

Hold to accelerate, release to take off, hold again to dive. Mouse, keyboard and touch all drive the same single control.

Angle-matched landings

Perfect, Good and Harsh come from the angle between your velocity and the ground slope, so a good landing is something you aim rather than a random roll.

Continuously adjustable dive

Holding in the air ramps the descent from about 17 to 49 degrees, letting you match a shallow or steep hill instead of committing to one fixed drop.

Risk that belongs to you

A glide landing can never end your run. Only a committed dive onto a badly matched slope does, so terrain that tosses you into the air on its own will not kill you unfairly.

Dusk desert art direction

A purple-to-orange sunset gradient, layered backlit dune silhouettes, warm rim light along every crest, and a glowing trail behind the orb.

Updraft risk zones

Some steep uphill sections carry lift. They launch you noticeably higher and make the landing harder to read, trading survival odds for air time and score.

Runs on low-end laptops

A single self-contained page with no downloads and a fixed 120Hz logic step, so handling stays identical whether the display runs at 60 or 144Hz.

Persistent local progress

Best score, coins earned, unlocked skins and the sound setting persist between visits in the same browser.

How to Play - Rules & Objectives

  1. 1Hold the control anywhere on the screen, or press Space on a keyboard, to accelerate. Speed only builds well when you are heading downhill.
  2. 2Release while you are still on the ground to take off. Launching from the top of a crest gives you the most air.
  3. 3Keep the control released and you will glide: the descent flattens to roughly 10 degrees, enough to clear a gap, but you also lose speed while gliding.
  4. 4Hold the control again while airborne to dive. The longer you hold, the steeper the angle becomes, from about 17 degrees up to about 49 degrees.
  5. 5Watch the slope you are about to reach and time your dive so your descent lines up with it. Land within about 17 degrees for a Perfect; land around 35 degrees off and it is only a Good; commit a dive onto the wrong angle and a Harsh landing ends the run.
  6. 6Collect the spinning coins on the route and in the air. After a run ends, hold again to start a new one, and spend coins on the Skins screen.

Pro Tips & High-Score Strategies

  • Perfect is the only thing that builds your combo. A Good landing will not break the combo, so take a safe Good instead of risking a Harsh when the slope is not readable.
  • Glide when you want to survive a gap, dive when you want a score. Diving adds speed and a 1.7x Perfect bonus, but it is also the only way you can die.
  • Pressing and releasing quickly in the air produces a shallow dive. Holding for a long time gives you the steep angle you need for a sharp downhill.
  • Updrafts give you a lot of height but a genuinely difficult landing read. Score them only when you already have a healthy combo to protect.
  • Do not chase every coin. A coin sitting just past a steep lip is usually not worth a Harsh landing, and deaths cost you the whole score.
