About Aurora Veil
Aurora Veil is a vertical bullet-hell shooter built on the JoyArc original engine: a needle-thin interceptor flies through aurora-lit danmaku, and the entire scoring loop is built around grazing rather than dodging everything at a distance.
Every bullet that enters the graze radius without hitting the ship charges the energy meter and refreshes the three-second chain window. A full meter converts into one Veil Burst, up to three stored. Grazing is always profitable and never punished, so the risk stays with the player: fly close for score, or stay safe and starve.
Five enemy types introduce aimed shots, dive attacks, rings and spiral walls, all of them telegraphed with a 0.45 second charge glow before firing. Waves cycle every five, and every fifth wave adds a Warden elite. Graphics, sound effects and level pacing are generated in the game itself; there are no external art assets and no in-game ads.
Key Features & Highlights
The graze radius is over four times the hit radius. Passing close to a bullet charges Veil Burst energy, refreshes the chain timer and adds 15 points times the current multiplier.
The multiplier follows 1 + floor(combo / 5) x 0.5, capped at 8x. Three seconds without a kill or a graze drops it back to 1x, so the pressure is on keeping the chain alive.
Moth, Lancer, Weaver, Prism and the Warden elite each fire a different pattern, and every spiral or wall pattern glows for 0.45 seconds before firing instead of attacking without warning.
Arrows or WASD with Shift focus on desktop; a drag pad plus FIRE, VEIL and SLOW buttons on touch. Both control schemes drive the same simulation.
How to Play - Rules & Objectives
- 1Start a run, then keep moving: the ship hitbox is tiny, so the ship's body can overlap bullets that do not actually hit you.
- 2Fly close to bullets to graze them. Each grazed bullet adds energy and refreshes the chain timer, which is the only way to charge Veil Burst.
- 3Spend a Veil Burst when the screen is dense: it clears every enemy bullet, damages all enemies and grants 1.2 seconds of safety.
- 4Collect P drops to raise power from level 1 to 4. Losing a life drops power by one level instead of resetting it.
- 5A run ends when all three ships are gone. R or RETRY starts a clean run immediately; the best score is kept in this browser.
Pro Tips & High-Score Strategies
- Do not spend a burst the moment it fills. Hold it until a bullet wall is about to close, then use the 1.2 second window to reposition and keep the chain alive.
- The Warden elite telegraphs each phase with the same glow. Use the first two phases to bank a burst, then break phase three with it.
- Focus mode is not only for tight gaps: slowing down makes graze distance easier to judge when a spiral starts, which is cheaper than losing a ship.
